New to Numi
numi | November 30, 2009Please Allow Me to Introduce Myself
Firstly, no, my birth name is not Numi. It’s a Pen Name given to me by a friend who seemed to think that my writing and philosophies etc were more-or-less in line with the world renowned 13th century Persian poet Rumi. So effectively it’s only a play on words for being the new, “Modern Day” Rumi. Maybe I’m a “Rumian?” If you are not familiar with his work I would implore you to experience what love and life meant to this prophet, and how he conveyed his feelings through his words to the world.
As for Numi, unfortunately I didn’t have the opportunity to go to collage. Actually I’m still surprised I made it out of high school. So I have no degrees, and as you will see, obviously far from an academic scholar. I have however earned a masters degree from the Collage of Hard-Knocks! I have held professional positions in Executive Management, as well as general labor jobs as a porter, dishwasher and even garbage man etc.
At 40-plus years of age I have only been writing for the past 7 years. What can be found in my work (aside from mass amounts of grammatical errors) is my personal assessment of the Human Condition, as it were. From love and loss. To politics, religion and my constant battle with a host of mental disorders. Most probably a mild case of Schizophrenia. Compounded with some OCD, ADD, BPD. etc. etc. (Oh yes, and my use of etc, and …)
Shakespearean is a term I like to use when referring to my romantic side. And although I have never read any of his writing, my poetry seems to come out with an Old English vernacular. So if you find that genre difficult to read and comprehend, you will find much of my work obtuse. My writing is somewhat cryptic in nature, and I often feel that my words are not my own, but being passed to, or funneled through me. It is my sincere hope that those who care to explore my mind will retire from it understanding, ME. Most of all I hope that something I say will induce others to express themselves, and look at the world around them from several perspectives other than their own. Ultimately for all people to explore what it is that makes us in fact people. Before we become too much like the machines we are enslaved to, and forget what it was like.
I believe someone has to be a (n):
- Voice of the Victimized
- Poet for the Impoverished
- Emancipator of the Exploited
- Mentor to the Meager
- Conscience of the Complacent
- Prophet to the Powerless
Albeit it does sound quite narcissistic, nothing could be further from the fact. Nothing contained in my site should be misinterpreted to associate itself; or implicate me in any type of cult, religious affiliation or iconic coercions. I would hope that most of my readers would understand the freedom and beauty that is granted in Poetic License. I use constantly!
You may find quite a bit of Egalitarian; Libertarian; and Democratically opinionated viewpoints on this site. But above all, I am a realist. So “Keeping It Real” is a big part of what I’m doing here. Yes, I do believe someone has to take up the torch and champion for the little guy!
It will become apparent to all those who visit and remain loyal readers that I also believe strongly that we, (the average working class citizen) are on the verge of an “Economic Cleansing” and World Re-Organization. Out of which will come the social eradication of an entire demographic. It is my opinion that after the smoke finally does clear from this economic tragedy, and you find yourself in the income bracket below $150,000 USD per year conservatively. It will be very difficult at best, to even manage an existence in this country. At least a Middle Class one. This formula will propagate throughout the World Economy according to monetary scale and market etc.
I also believe that the wheels have been in motion far too long to enable us to put on the brakes at this point in time. I think as a community, if we can still manage to re-assemble one, all we can help to do is bring as many others over the fence as we can before it’s too late. Attempt to wake people up and hopefully encourage them to see “The Truth” for what it is, and pull themselves up over that threshold before they are cast into the street to live or die like animals.
My sincere apologies to those who would deem this Pessimistic Rhetoric, but I’m pushing the Realistic Rhetoric movement.
I always welcome comments and questions. I promise a reply to everyone that does so. I consider all people friends and therefore grant like counsel. Welcome to my little corner of virtual space…
