Every man indeed has his price. But before he can be bought, shackle and bind him to a lesser life.
I surmise it all began with some intelligent form of primitive man. Hunting, gathering, soon planting the things on which to feed. Farming fools to meet the greedy leaders growing needs.
Labored and tired even cultivated fools begin to expire. Wondering why they have attained nothing, while some select others take another step farther.
Fearing their plan was losing its shape, greedy leaders drafted an idea; we’ll call it faith. Sight unseen sound unheard. A spark of light by which to work and fight, instructional words; we’ll form a religious rite.
Dispatch evangelists into disgruntled crowds. Teach and preach, dazzle them with whimsical rhetoric about turning the other cheek. Turn their spirits around, within the guise of trust we can tare the walls of apprehension down. Take count of how many brooding frowns unavoidable fate can turn upside down.
Convincing all, young, old, big and small. The complacency and tolerance that they shall be brought to endure. The exploits we have prepared for them evermore. Rewards beyond the graves pearly gates, paradise in a place called heaven surely awaits.
Once control of the soul is in our grasp, binding law is our last scheduled task. By being born you accept these terms good or bad. Death comes by chance, and quite in its turn. But if by your own hand, then your immortal soul is condemned to gnash and burn.
The hand you’re dealt is the one you’ll play. Hypocrisy is a luxury reserved for the aristocracy, no matter the circumstance, nor the day.
You see, we need you all here to do our bidding. To keep us in the lifestyle we have become accustomed to living. Who will build our homes and save our backs. Fight our wars and provide us with whores. Take out the trash, be our human jackass.
We allow you to invent and create. To pour your hearts into everything you make. With a price and contrived law, this too greedy leaders will squander and take. Use your pride as a shield when you’re out in the street. If you run out of bread, go find some cake to eat.
So it was; So it is; So it will always be. The have’s, and the have-not’s. Forever despited. Forever divided.
The grand design of some overgrown monkey…
